Throughout the national health emergency, CMS has provided waivers backed by Congressional funding to assist providers in fighting the pandemic. CMS offered relief through telehealth, waiving of the 3-day hospital stay, and benefit period extension. CMS also lifted PBJ reporting and ceased medical review.

CMS allowed medical review to resume on August 3rd,2020, and starting August 17th, the MACs resumed post-payment review for services provided prior to March 1st, 2020. In addition, the Office of the Inspector General has continued to update their work plan to investigate proper use of waiver flexibility and funding.
